Strict fines for traffic violation

This week, I realize that traffic policemen have worked harder than usual. Without attention, anyone would be whistled for driving in wrong lanes, which people used to violate everyday without any problem. Unfortunately, no matter how many policemen are there in the streets, traffic jam still happens even more regularly. After seeing this article on Tuoitre.com, I think I now know the reason: The city is making another effort to reduce traffic accidents and to improve its traffic quality. Sounds good!

According to the news, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc imputed Ho Chi Minh city should pioneer in reducing 30% of traffic jams and traffic accidents in all three aspects: number of violating cases, number of dead toll, and injurance instead of 10% as set out before.

On the other side, the city's Vice Chairman Nguyen Huu Tin affirmed the biggest problem of city traffic is the so-fast increase of individual vehicles:
- In 2011, the number of  vehicles gained nearly 650000. Total number reached 5.5 million.
- Among those 650000 was 500000 cars, which was 1/3 of the whole country

While, according to Mr. Tran Quang Phuong, director of Department of Transport:
- In 2011, road reclamation and renewal took only 1.3 million of square meter while the number of individual vehicles has rised 13%, which pressured more on the city's traffic capability.
- Currently, the proportion of land-use for traffic is 13% while the world-wide standard is about 22-24%.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phuc revealed that there would be more severe levels of penalty in the law. He also added that reducing individual vehicles is now an imperative considered to rosier the picture.

The Ministry of Transportation finished their project of "Solutions to limit the rapid increase of individual vehicles". According to the Deputy Prime Minister, The National Assembly agrees with the solution of raising individual vehicles fee and vehicles entering Ho Chi Minh center.
