the Code!
I am totally a kind of out-of-trend whenever something is marketed widely.
I'm not afraid to confess that I haven't read any book of Harry Potter, but really enjoy the movie though I'm sure the original story is always better. When I watched "Lord of The Rings", I enjoyed the whole set of 3 episodes in just 1 night, also the time the third episoded had been released for more than 1 year. Until now, I have just saw a piece of the "Angels and Demons" movie and have not watch any minute of "Da Vinci code" but the trailer.
However, I'm in the adventure of professor Langdon and Sophie to un-cover the secret of the Grail (thanx to the invention of Kindle haha). Of course, considering it a true piece to enjoy, just like "Angels and Demons", I just want the English version of the book.
Shortly say, I really admire the brain that can combine such a huge amount of specific information into a story, which I am now questioning "Is everything true?". I have no feeling of reading a fiction. It's between reality and imagination, like how "2012" still haunts some people now. As a designer, I'm totally addicted to all the details of the story. Sometimes I tried to quit, getting to the PC, googling some for more knowledge. For example, "The last supper" is nothing new to me, but its deep-inside meaning of the layout is ... like a new sun.
Although "Angels and Demons" is more about city design than "Da Vinci code", it's "Da Vinci code" that enlarges my knowledge and trigger my hunger for knowledge more.
Another thing is about Da Vinci. I love art but hardly remember great names except some like Mozart, Leonardo Da Vinci, Van Gogh etc. I don't know anything about them, just coincidently impressed by the name and some of their works. After "Da Vinci Code" and a morning of googling about the artist, the inventor, I decide he is my most favorite classic artist. Reasons? He's a man of creativity. He painted. He designed and invented. He also researched as a true scientist. I never forget the sense of wanting to do so many things like that when I was younger. It seems the older I get, the less creative I become, sadly.
But Da Vinci will always be there to remind me!
Why should I limit myself to any single thing ?
Finally, I realize most of my favorite works, books, movies, myths ..., have one similarity. It is a "system" of ordinary belief and its "anti-system"
"Da Vinci Code" : the system of Christian Church, the most usual beliefs about sex.
"Angels and Demons" : the system of science and religion.
"Matrix": the system of a virtual world and people out of that system
and most recently, "Dark City" that I have just watched on Cinemax tonight.
I think I was born naturally "anti-system", especially systems that limit freedom. So many times I questioned about every "system" that I was related to, usually wondering about my position in those, making a lot of comparison and then effort to change. This is not really good to live in a tightened society, especially when losing control. But the feeling is surely good. I hate when somebody tell me to be "as ordinary as every other".
Said too much, gotta go back to my Kindle then sleep. Tomorrow is another Monday.
